Getting the Most Into Your Home

As a fellow London Towne resident, I share at least one thing in common with you: I live in a home built around 1970 with “old fashioned” pride and quality. While I love our home, I find the approximately 1,800 square feet of our house seems smaller as my family grows. I would love to hear what solutions you have found to maximize your living space!

We have tried:

  • Simplifying. We try to minimize the “stuff” we collect.
  • Playing outdoors. We make the most of our patio during nice weather and keep tools in a shed out back.
  • Rebuilding closets. Shelving systems help us fit more in every closet, storage space, and nooks and crannies.
  • Using bunk beds. By using more vertical space, the kids can share a room.
  • Getting into the attic. Hauling the ladder upstairs can be irksome, but we use our attic to store old baby gear and seasonal or seldom-used items.
We’re even considering remodeling the kitchen to get additional cabinet and counter space!

Where do you put that bulky lawnmower? For those with small children—and the large plastic paraphernalia that comes with them—where do you find is the best place to set up their play area? Leave a comment on this post with any ideas you have!
